Williamson Company Oil Burner 02-689 Manual

Hello all, Another newb here with a problem; please be kind if I fail in the terminology Dept! Lol My system is a 2005 Williamson OWT-3 oil fired water boiler, beckett Burner, tankless: FlexconHTX 30 expansion tank/12PSIG, WT-11 hot water coil, 2 zone (basement suite & main floor of ranch style house) Last spring I had a service guy out to check on a weeping 30psi Pressure Relief Valve. He replaced my hot water mixing valve (just the guts) said less expensive that R/R, replaced the Hy-Vent on top of the boiler cabinet but not the one on the Air Scoop, and of course the 30psi pressure relief valve. This was probably in April on Cape Cod and not much call for heat then. All seemed ok and near Xmas I noticed the weeping starting again.and Boiler PSI near 30 during and at shutdown. It does fall more as it sits but not to 15PSI.

I read a little here, adjusted the fill valve thinking it may be over filling and that stopped the purging from the Pressure relief Valve, didn't seem to lower the Boiler PSI. The accustat is: Low/140 - High/152 - Diff/12 Adjusted there so boiler would startup at 160F, shut off at 180F Now near Feb, a couple of hours ago I lifted the lever on the Auto makeup Valve trying to hear if it was working.

I THINK that may have increased the Boiler PSI during firing/heating. As it stands: *** IDLE: * Boiler Temp = 160F * Boiler PSI = 15 * Expansion Tank PSI = 20 Only warm on the Head/Top *** ON STARTUP:'Heat Call'? * Boiler PSI rises within a minute or two from about 15PSI to 32-34 * Boiler Temp rises gradually, as expected * Expansion Tank rises a little. Maybe to 25PSI Tank gets hot fairly quickly but again, only on the Head/Top *** SHUTDOWN: * Boiler Temp = 180F * Boiler PSI gradually falls.not going back down to about 15 since touching the fill valve * At some point, during heating or after shutoff, PRV has purged I don't think I should 'dabble' any further without advice! Any and all advice appreciated. Are you suggesting I set the low/160 on the accustat, and High/180 and forget what the boiler guage reads?

First though, it's a AQUASTAT. For you to have to set those so low in order to get the boiler temp in a reasonable range indicates that there is a problem. Either the aquastat is not sensing the temperature correctly, or your boiler gauge is bad.

Maybe the sensing bulb on the aquastat is not fully inserted into the well? Maybe it's just outta whack.

But something is wrong. What I meant was that if your LOW is at 140, your high should not be less than 160. There should always be 20F between the two settings, whatever they might be. This might even be printed right into the white plastic on the front of the dial plate. *** IDLE: * Boiler Temp = 160F * Boiler PSI = 15 * Expansion Tank PSI = 20 Only warm on the Head/Top Something not right here. First off, there's absolutely no point whatsoever in measuring the air valve on the expansion tank when there is pressure on the water side of the tank. It tells you next to nothing.

However, in this case, the fact that you got a HIGHER reading on the tank air tells us that either your boiler pressure gauge, or your tire pressure gauge, or BOTH are not accurate. That they are both accurate and you have too much air in the expansion tank. You see, when there is ZERO pressure on the water side of the tank, you can accurately read the air charge in the tank. That's the ONLY time you will get an accurate reading of the air charge in the tank.
