Barnett Recruit Crossbow Owners Manual
Hey I am new here and I am desperate for some help.I have a Barnett recruit compound that needs a cable and string change.the string actually looks good for it to have as many shots on it as it does.but the cables look ruff around the bottom of the cam where it rolls over.I have looked on line for replacements and see two different one.one is a 32' string with a 16.75' cable. The other is the 32.938 with a 17.625 and all sellers say the later is for 2014 and newer.here is my problem my owners manual that I didn't find until I had ordered a set said my bow calls for 32 string 17.125 cables. No one even sales those cables. So I call the guy I got the cables from and he said he had never heard of the 17.125 paired with a 32.And that he feels what I got will work fine.Monday I called Barnett to get their input. They told me the new string and cables that are the longer size 32.938 And 17.625 are what I need even though that's not what came on my bow.they offered to send me a compet set.I already know about the NY laws they told me all about that.but couldn't tell me how a string and cables that are a 1' longer would work. And from what i can gather they had a change in 2015 but my bow is older and.my question will the 32 16.75 work on my bow seeing how I have them on hand.even though my bow came with 32.

17.125.or should I just put what Barnett is sending me on and try to sale the set I got that is 32 16.75.because neither one is what came on my bow and Barnett will not tell me anything other than not to put the the short ones on. The big question I guess is can I use what I got. I did a search on Barnett website for the string and cables for your crossbow. The manual states: string 32' and cable 17.125'. My thought here is if you did install the 16.75' cable, it will advance your cams (putting preload on the crossbow).
This would make the bow shoot faster. My Barnett Ghost 410 did not have enough twists when I received it, and due to this it would not come close to the advertised speed using the basic 400 grain arrow.
I had to add twists to bring it up to spec. In your case by installing the shorter cable could put the crossbow over spec, possibly causing damage. Another option would be to go to 60X website and request them to build you a set that you require. I am using 60X on my Barnett Ghost 410 and have several thousand shots. Good luck with what ever you decide.

I went with the new version that Barnett sent me even though they didn't match the original size.I'm feeling I may have made the wrong desison carrying it to gander mountain to get the work done though. I brought both sets with me and asked the bow tech what he thought. He acted as if I had asked him in a different language.I got a bad felling right away.but proceeded anyway. And in the end he suggested I use what Barnett had given me.
Once he started working I asked about the till on the bow.he said that crossbows don't have a till that is for traditional compound bows not crossbows.and at this point my head is spinning. After he had the cables and string on he started twisting them up to time it but only at one end.I thought that had to be done evenly. Now that I have my bow back I noticed that one of the cables where it splits to go to the limb has no twist at all while the other has several. I haven't got home to fire it yet.but am I just being a newbie that don't know what he's talking about?
